Sadly enough, I had been under the impression that we were far removed from of the lasting effects on being held captive on plantations. Even though the 13th amendment gave us our physical freedom by law, our minds still aren't free. Though I see acts of buffoonery just about every day from us-this takes the cake. Nothing like the bondage of mental chains...
I ain't gonna front, I'm down with the dark-skinned honey. You see them thangs on her?! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, the thing of it is,is the fact that we do still struggle with color tone as an issue. We thought it had died down until the election of our President and whether or not he would have been elected to office if he had been of a darker tone or complexion. We keep this thing alive and well. I remember being teased as a child for being "darker" than some. This did honestly give me a disdain for lighter-complected folks. Truthfully, I kinda feel like light skin people are more arrogant than darker skin people. Honestly, it was refreshing to meet you Elijah, and not pick up on a tone of arrogance because of your complexion, and hearing you say wonderful things about all people of color. However, that is the exception and not the rule. It's no wonder that the world automatically feels like Michelle Obama has an "attitude". As darker-toned black women, we have been made to feel less than good enough for anything outside of an occasional desire of sexual curiosity.
ReplyDeleteThis is some trash for real...
ReplyDeleteI wondered if those girls on the flyer were at the party. Cuz then I would go anyway
