Trayvon Martin

Do you know who this young man is?

He could be your son, nephew, student or random kid in the neighborhood that you see around. His life is valuable, too valuable to be forgotten after the media frenzy and hype dies down. Too valuable to be forgotten once Kim Kardashian or Snooki do something stupid. Too valuable to be forgotten once that Kanye song comes on. Too valuable to be forgotten because someone tweeted you a pic of a dog drinking beer through a bong. Say a prayer for his family. Talk to young men that you know. Tell them that their lives can be reduced to a 30 second segment on TV for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. As beautiful and wonderful as America is, it isn't colorblind. It isn't 'Post-Racial'. Blacks folks haven't achieved equal footing. We are still victims of stereotypes and made to feel guilty if we feel for a moment that we are the victims of racism. Trayvon deserved better than this. He didn't deserve to fall victim to someone's ignorance and wanna-be pseudo-vigilantism. Justice wouldn't just be the arrest of his killer. True justice will be received when all black males can walk comfortably through any neighborhood without the threat of being generalized as negative characterizations born of exceptions and not rules.

  1. Funny that there isn't any comments on here. But write about women, relationships, etc. There are comments galore. Priorities people, priorities...
