UCONN Women set a record, but lose a never-ending battle
So, I'm the first to admit that I'm not a big fan of women's basketball whatsoever. Nevertheless, what the University of Connecticut Women's basketball team has accomplished is still amazing and awe-inspiring. Winning 89 games in a row is jaw-dropping and dominating those games is unfathomable, but-that is exactly what they did. I'm not really interested in comparing them to the UCLA Men's Basketball team that won 88 games. That is absolutely unfair. Why am I saying this? Not because I think that womens' basketball isn't as good as mens', but what I'm saying is that it's another way for our chauvinistic society to find a way to make women appear weak or in a "different class" than men or their sports. Womens' athletic achievements will never get their just due, as women will never get the respect they deserve in our sexist society. For all their hard-work and education, they still make 77 cents to each dollar a man makes. It's tried and true that man just can't consider woman his equal, especially in the locale of sports. Women are clearly fighting to this day for equal footing in society. Regardless of that fact, let's celebrate and heap praise on the women of UConn for what they've accomplished, which is absolutely amazing, notwithstanding gender.
